Guidelines & Policies
Fares
To receive service, passengers may pay a fare upon boarding, but their escorts do not. Fares may be paid by cash or check. Prior arrangements may be made with the Transportation office staff to pay for rides in advance.
Co-pays must be exact change and will be collected upon each entry to a vehicle.
Service Area
Our regular service area includes Wayne, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, and Susquehanna counties.
Reservations
Reservations will be accepted as far in advance as six months and not later than 4 p.m. two business days before your appointment. Senior shared-ride and persons with disability trips must be booked at least one business day in advance.
Additional Trips
Transportation riders must call the office to arrange additional trips. For example, if you anticipate making a stop at a pharmacy after your doctor visit, please book the trip from the doctor’s office to the pharmacy at the time you book your reservation. We cannot accept requests for extra stops on the day and time of a trip. Transportation riders should allow for medications and food as needed. Please call to cancel if the stop does not become necessary.
Personal Escorts & Service Animals
Wayne County Transportation provides assistance to board and disembark. At the time of registration, a passenger is required to let us know if he or she must travel with an escort. The same is true of service animals. There is no charge for an escort or service animal.
Footrests
Passengers utilizing the vehicle lifts while also utilizing a mobility device must use footrests on the mobility device, if the mobility device has footrests. If unable to do so, passengers must notify the Transportation office.
Reasonable Modification of Policy
If a passenger with a disability requires modification of any of the Wayne County Transportation System’s policies and practices to accommodate their disability to use the service, the passenger may request such a modification by contacting the Transportation Director. The Wayne County Transportation System will work with the individual to find an acceptable accommodation solution.
Where a request for modification cannot practicably be made and determined in advance, operating personnel will make a determination of whether the modification should be provided at the time of the request. Operating personnel may consult with Wayne County Transportation System management before making a determination to grant or deny the request.
Requests for modification of policies and practices may be denied only on one or more of the following grounds:
- Granting the request would fundamentally alter the nature of the Wayne County Transportation System’s services, programs, or activities.
- Granting the request would create a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
- Without the requested modification, the individual with a disability is able to fully use the Wayne County Transportation System's services, programs, or activities for their intended purpose.
If the Wayne County Transportation System denies a request for a reasonable modification, the agency shall take, to the maximum extent possible, other actions (that would not result in a direct threat or fundamental alteration of service) to ensure that the individual with a disability receives the services or benefit provided by the Wayne County Transportation System.
