[ARCHIVED] THOSE IN THE 729 EXCHANGE CAN NOT DIAL 911

Aug. 22, 2023

For Immediate Release

BEACH LAKE, WAYNE COUNTY – The Wayne County 9-1-1 Center has been informed by Verizon that those with landlines in the 729 exchange, which is the Beach Lake area, can only call others in the 729 exchange and no other exchanges. This includes the inability to call 9-1-1.

Cellular devices have no issues at this point and those in the 729 exchange are encouraged to use their cell phones to make emergency calls. If a resident or business owner in the 729 exchange does not have a cellular phone, you are encouraged to call someone else in the 729 exchange who has a cellular phone and ask them to call 9-1-1 on your behalf. Please make sure they have your accurate address.

Verizon has informed the county that it is working on fixing the issue but at this time there is no time frame for a repair completion.
