[ARCHIVED] Defendant Pleads No Contest to Sexual Assault on Three Minor Children

HONESDALE -- Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell  announced Joseph Christopher Krombel, 24, entered a no contest plea for sexually assaulting 3 minor children, all under the age of 12 and younger at the time of the crimes. Krombel admitted he has no defense to contest the charges of aggravated indecent assault of a child and corruption of minors.

Just prior to a jury trial to begin on May 16, 2022, Krombel admitted before Honorable President Judge Janine Edwards that he is not contesting the molestation of the three (3) minor children that occurred sometime between the dates of January 1, 2017, and August 2020.

The children revealed Krombel’s assault after he was removed from the residence on another matter.

President Judge Janine Edwards set a sentencing date of August 18, 2022, after an assessment by the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board (“SOAB”). The SOAB evaluates certain convicted sex offenders in order to assist the Court in determining whether the offender meets the legal criteria for classification as a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP). Krombel faces up to 45 years in prison.
