[ARCHIVED] Wayne County Marks Patriot Day with Sept. 10 Observance

The Color Guard stand at attention during a previous Patriot Day Ceremony at the County Courthouse

HONESDALE – Wayne County hosts a solemn observance of the 20th Anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks on Friday, Sept. 10, at the memorial in front of The Dimmick Building, 901 Court St., Honesdale, at 12 noon.

The short ceremony will include the Pledge of Allegiance, brief remarks by Wayne County Director of Military & Veterans Affairs Victoria Wargo, remarks by Wayne County Commissioners, a moment of silence and the playing of “Taps.”

The US Congress designated Sept. 11 as Patriot Day just three months after the attacks, calling on the governments and people of the United States to observe a moment of silence in honor of the individuals who lost their lives. The American Flag should be flown at half-staff on that day as well.

County employees and members of the public are welcome to attend.
