HONESDALE (Oct. 21, 2020) -- The Wayne County Commissioners, the County Office of Human Services and The Cooperage Project present the USDA Farmers to Families program, which will distribute 800 free meals to local residents.
Under this program, The US Department of Agriculture partners with regional and local distributors, whose workforce has been significantly impacted by the closure of restaurants, hotels and other food service entities, to purchase fresh foods.
The Agriculture Marketing Service purchases the fresh fruits and vegetables and a variety of dairy and meat products, while participating distributors and wholesalers package the pre-approved boxes for delivery to food banks, community faith-based organizations and other non-profit groups serving American in need.
On Oct. 27, the meals will be distributed at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, off Route 191 just north of Honesdale, from 2 to 6 pm. The only thing you need to bring is proof of Wayne County residency, such as a current utility bill.
This will be a drive-through event and USDA will provide boxes of meal that include a box of frozen meat, a box of dairy, a box of produce and a gallon of Milk. Simply pull up, pop your trunk and a volunteer will load it with the food boxes.
