[ARCHIVED] Workshop Focuses on Methods for Controlling Invasive Vegetation in Your Forest

The Wayne Conservation District plans to host a A ‘hands-on‘ workshop Saturday, September 12, at a property north of Honesdale in Wayne County. 

Forestry labeled herbicides are a low risk, economical and effective means of controlling undesirable vegetation in hardwood forest management.  ‘Methods for Controlling Invasive Vegetation in Your Forest’ will feature Dave Jackson from Penn State Extension and Bryan Rose from Arborchem Products. Dave and Bryan are experienced forestry herbicide specialists. They will share their knowledge and expertise regarding how, when and why to treat some of our most problematic plant species, including beech brush, fern, barberry, grapevine and other various invasive vegetation. 

The training will demonstrate forestry herbicide application methods including foliar, hack and squirt, and basal bark. Specific products, rates and application timing will be discussed. In-field herbicide applications for controlling numerous competing and invasive plant species will be demonstrated.

This workshop focuses on landowners who are interested in learning how to manage competing vegetation in their forest.  

Two sessions are being offered one in the morning (9 am) and another in the afternoon (1 pm).  This workshop is free of charge but space is limited and registration is required.  Registrants will receive directions to the site along with the agenda. 

The workshop will be help entirely outside so plan to dress for the weather, rain or shine. Attendees will be expected to follow COVID-19 recommendations including social distancing and mask wearing.
