The Wayne County Area Agency on Aging announces the cancellation of all activities at our senior centers, effective March 17, 2020 until further notice, according to Mary Ursich, MSW, Wayne County Area Agency on Aging Administrator.

“This is a proactive measure meant to protect our most vulnerable citizens and is in line with what the CDC and State Department of Health are recommending when it comes to social distancing and preventative actions to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus,” said Brian Smith, chairman of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners’.

While the centers are not open to the public, they are staffed and take-out meals will be available, Monday through Friday from 11am-1pm at the Honesdale, Hamlin, and Hawley locations.  Meals will be delivered to any participant who is unable to come in for take-out meals.  Please provide 24 hours’ notice by calling 570-253-5540 to request either take-out or home-delivered meals.   Participants should not to come to the centers via county transportation for take-out meals.  Those using transportation should request home-delivered meals.

323 Tenth Street, Honesdale

Hawley Senior Center

The Northern Wayne Satellite Senior Center (1st & 3rd Thursday of every month at the Northern Wayne Fire Hall) is cancelled until further notice.  Participants of the Northern Wayne Satellite may also participate in the take-out meal program or receive home-delivered meals by calling 570-253-5540.

While centers are closed, senior center staff will be making weekly phone contacts with all participants.  We respectfully ask that the public refrain from coming to the Aging Office and Senior Centers if at all possible.  We will attempt to conduct business via phone.
