Nearly 30 percent of Wayne County’s population consists of those ages 60 and older, yet only a fraction of those who are eligible for meals, transportation and a myriad of other enrichment, education and wellness programs take advantage of them. In May, Pennsylvania marks Older Americans Month and a group of seniors and members of the Area Agency on Aging staff received a proclamation from the County Commissioners. Chairman Brian Smith said today seniors “built what we enjoy every day.” However, said Commissioner Wendell Kay, they’re not searching for a rocking chair, but rather ways to stay active. “They have plenty of connecting, creating and contributing left to do,” he said.
