[ARCHIVED] Conservation District Workshop Focuses on Streams, Flooding

StreamWorkshop

HONESDALE -- The Wayne Conservation District and the Susquehanna and Bradford County Conservation Districts present a one-day Stream Maintenance & Flood Intervention Workshop on Thursday, Aug. 30 at the Park Street Complex in Honesdale.

The workshop is geared toward local municipalities and emergency flood response professionals and will provide training on stream behavior and how to use basic stream assessments to design interventions that will work in cooperation with a watershed’s natural tendencies.  Proactive planning strategies will result in a stream’s capacity to restore itself after a flood event and reduce the erosion and sedimentation that occur during repeated reconstruction efforts.

This workshop, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, will include classroom-style presentations in the cafeteria of the Park Street Complex in Honesdale strengthened with a relevant, on-site stream demonstration on the Lackawaxen River.  Be prepared to be outside for part of the day.

Pre-registration is required and lunch will be provided.  Parking is limited so carpooling is encouraged.
